Convention: Agreed Agenda (Mar /11)
A Community Convention was called on the 10th March 2011 in the Spectrum Centre, to hammer out an agreed community agenda for the area.
Agreement was sought on four "headline agendas":
- Quality of life issues
- Education
- Employment and Employability
- Physical infrastructure and Environment
Plenary discussions were then facilitated on each "headline issue".
Invitations were sent to a range of community groups, political representitaves and individuals throughout the Greater Shankill Community. (If you did not recieve an invitation and would like to be included on the list for further conventions; please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Posters inviting members of the Community to the event were displayed around the Shankill area, 350 leaflets were distributed and an advert was also featured in the Shankill Mirror. The attendees of the Convention are listed in this document.

After a Welcoming introduction on behalf of the organising group by Jackie Redpath, the Convention was addressed by Nigel Dodds, MP on behalf of all political representatives in the area.
The agenda for the day featured presentations on each headline, after each presentation there was a plenary discussion on the topic at hand. If you would like a copy of the days presentation slides, click here to view the presentation.
In the four plenary discussions, everyone assembled in the room was invited to have their say on the matter. As each of the headlines were addressed, the points of conversation were recorded to ensure a consencus.
To see the results of these discussions, see the document outlining points of consencus on each headline agenda.
Finally; after the final discussion and conclusions, attendees were encouraged to leave their thoughts, and if they did not feel confident enough to speak publicly, any points of discussion they would like included. The contents of these have been collated and can be read in this Feedback document.
