Tiny Steps

Tiny Steps is a programme for two year olds delivered by Shankill Sure Start in the Hannah Centre, Crumlin Road and the Alessie Centre, Shankill Road.

The programme is an initiative for children in their penultimate pre-school year and provides a play-based approach to the development and learning of two year old children which builds on, and complements, existing services and programmes, such as speech and language development programmes and parent and toddler groups, provided by Sure Start.

The programme also seeks to encourage parental involvement and participation by encouraging parents to attend the setting on one morning each week. Parental involvement is an integral part of the programme and ‘stay to play’ sessions, with a focus on parents and children working and talking together, are well attended. The programme is delivered to groups of 12 children, by three staff, over four 2.5 hour sessions/week.
