Integrated Services for Children & Young People (ISCYP)
It's not only in school that children learn, in fact, the family has a bigger influence in a child's life, as do their friends and the community as they get older – for good or ill.
The Greater Shankill Partnership's Integrated Services for Children & Young People Programme (ISCYP) seeks to improve the life chances of children and young people throughout the area.
It is in the family that a child learns the most and because of that, ISCYP has a particular focus on providing support for families. The ISCYP Programme seeks to ensure that all those working with children and their families, from schools, to social services, to youth workers, community groups, etc, do so in an integrated way, working better together.
From April of this year, ISCYP Family Support Service has been involved with over 125 families in Greater Shankill; its 7 Apprentice Youth Workers have engaged with hundreds of young people through 133 programmes delivered in the area, including a Counselling Service which has had over 80 referrals.
The Education Aspiration Team seeks to raise young people's self esteem and learning opportunities, both in school and the community.
The Greater Shankill Partnership's ISCYP sister programme is based in West Belfast, run through the West Belfast Partnership Board. A joint Project Board oversees both Programmes and funding comes from the Department of Education, through the Belfast Education and Library Board. Both Projects were proposed by the Greater Shankill and West Belfast Task Forces (2001).
