Olympic Torch on Shankill Road

olympic-torch-road

You may have heard that the Olympic people have announced the route the Olympic Torch will take, and on the Wednesday 6th June, it will travel up the Shankill Road!

The torch makes a few visits to Belfast; it will visit sites including the new Titanic Quarter complex, and end up at City Hall for a big bash on the evening of June 6th. The torch will be carried around Belfast by torchbearers who were nominated from the local area.

In the Shankill, the Olympic torch will hop over the Crumlin Road (coming from Cliftonpark Avenue) and head down Agnes Street, before turning right onto the Shankill Road at the Shankill Women's Centre. Once on the Shankill road, the torch will head up past the Co-Op and the Memorial Park, continue past the Library and the Spectrum Centre, pass the West Belfast Orange Hall and turn left down Lanark Way. Once it's passed Impact Training and the Peace Wall, it turns left down the Springfield Road and on to the Grosvenor Road and the City Centre.

The London 2012 Olympic Torch will make this jaunt through the Shankill at about 5.20PM on Wednesday 6th June, so make sure to catch this once-in-a-lifetime event.
